I get the following error when I try to modify the web part and provide the Google maps API key

Cannot make a cache safe URL for "PickerTreeDialog.js", file not found. Please verify that the file exists under the layouts directory.

Can you try to compare the folder
C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\12\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\1033

And

C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\12\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\10XX

Do you see that the file ******.js is present in one location and missing in the other?
Try to make a copy!!!

In order to circumvent the issue discussed in the WSS compatibility Discussion, I created a column in my list (DescriptionHTML). Its column type is Calculated. This field concatenates several field values together to form the site's address and contact information. The column values are being calculated correctly and it is a solid HTML text block. I've included the column's formula for testing purposes.

="Address: " & [Address] & " " & [City] & ", CA" & [Zip/Postal Code] & " Phone: " & [Primary Phone]

The issue arises when this field (DescriptionHTML) is used in the web part. No errors occur, but the balloon renders excess text: string;#

After the excess text, the HTML from the column is rendered properly. This can be noticed by wrapping a around all of the data - the column data appears bold, but "string;#" does not.

Also, if the same HTML comes from a "single line of text" column it renders properly without the excess text. So it seems of little doubt that it is the way the rendering mechanics are handling the particular Calculated column type.

Hi there,

I'm getting the same issue. Does anyone have a resolve for this? I've tried RIGHT & LEN but they manipulate just the data before the "string;#" is added at the start.

The webpart works GREAT aside from this. :-)

I've installed this webpart on 2 other test servers and it worked fine, but when i went to install it on the production server all i get is the zoom bar, the Powered by Google icon and the Map/Satelite/Hybrid buttons. I've tried removing it completly and reinstalling but that didn't work....

It's like everything displays but the actual map.

Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

Yeah, you are exactly right. I had to add a CSS to this instance. I must have missed it during the install.

Have you added any CSS to this instance? Normally when I have seen that happen its because the div tag that holds the map doesn't have a height declared.

I have installed the MJB.Sharepoint.googlemaps.wsp within MOSS 2007, the solution has been successfully deployed - Central Administration>Operations>Solution Management. However the Google Maps Web Part is not visible within the Misc Gallery when I try and add the web part to a page. The only options I have to activate within Site Settings / Site Features / are "CreateGoogleMapList" and "CreateGoogleMapList" When I go to Web Part Gallery - the web part is not listed. Have I missed a step? Thanks Nelster

I've created a list called LocationsList within lists on my WSS Site. I've tried various different settings, but I always get a sharepoint error page telling me the File was not found.

My Webpart is created on a full page web part page beneath Documents, and the List is in the usual location.

The entire path to my Site is:

https://servername.mycompany.net/services/om

I thought the setting should be:

Relative path to site: /services/om/lists

List name: LocationsList

Can you please help, I really am impressed with what you have done!

I found a bug. I tried putting in "Papa John's Pizza" as the title of an item in my list. I don't think it likes the apostrophe in "John's". It won't render the map at all if I do that.

you're right - it won't like that apostraphe. I'm planning a new version in the next 6 weeks - I'll make sure I encode the titles in that. Until then you may have to use ' to replace the apostraphe.

I am on the sharepoint server. When I try step 4 I get the following error:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
c:\googlemaps\MJB.wss.GoogleMaps.wsp: The Solution installation failed.

Fixed this problem myself.

The issue is that you should be logged onto the Sharepoint Server as the administrator of the Sharepoint Site. I forgot that on my Intranet the local server administrator doesn't have the same permissions as the Sharepoint Site Administrator.

It connects to a list find, and seems to display the correct location (I can see the marker, the Directions blurb and move the map around) however the entire map is grey, I see no detail and trying to enter directions address produces no results.

I have uploaded the CSS and applied it to the site. However no joy, is there anything else you can recommend I try?

Hi Steve,
Here are some things you can test for me:

Do you have the map controls? If so, Zoom out as far as you can go and make sure your points aren't in the arctic.
What browser are you using? I don't think I've tested this in IE8 yet but don't think it should be a problem.
Can your machine (and the content access account) get out to the internet?
Could you try adding a simple google map - say from following the tutorial on http://www.endusersharepoint.com/?p=1261
Does your organisation allow access to google maps (one place I know blocks it because the techs think Live maps is better and every one should use it)

Let me know how these go and I'll see what I can do for you!

Hi, Can you try two things for me - firstly look in the features folder in the 12 hive (the path listed above) and make sure that the folder mapswebpart exists. If it doesn't, go to central administration and make sure that the solution mjb.sharepoint.googlemaps is installed and deployed. If the answer to both of those is yes then can you try running stsadm -o activatefeature -name mapwebpart - url http://yoursite There was on version where I spelt the feature name wrong. If after all that it still persists, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
